Our Week

As you probably figured out from my last post, we did go to Texas this last weekend.  We left Friday morning because we absolutely love to drive in mega-holiday traffic.  OK, maybe not.  It maybe wasn’t our wisest decision.  The traffic was crazy!  But we eventually made it.

On Saturday we hung out with my sister Angela, her husband Ed and their 5 kids.  We put a cooler of water and juice pouches outside so they wouldn’t come into the house every 2 minutes for a drink.  Between the 7 kids drinking them, they went through 20 juice pouches.  Sugar high much?

That evening, we went to Rudy’s with my dad, Michael, and Britney (my brother and sister-in-law).  I can’t say much more than mmmmmmmmmmm.  We then went back to Mike and Britney’s apartment to admire their new (to them) teardrop trailer and meet their dog, Dex.

Sunday we were able to visit Mike and Brit’s church, then went out to eat with them and some of their friends—two fun couples.  We then made our requisite trip to Academy before heading back to the house to relax for the rest of the day.

On Monday, we spent the day with Dad and Angela’s crew at the park.  We had a spot under 2 huge oak trees that was shaded the entire day.  I think the high that day was 94 degrees, but we spent 9 beautiful hours there in comfort.  The kids spent much of the day playing in a dirt pile.  They were filthy by the time we left.  But they had so much fun playing with their cousins, wading in the springs and feeding the ducks.

Tuesday we made our Taco Cabana and Fry’s stops, then spent the afternoon and evening at my other sister’s house.  We met our newest nephew, Caidan, and enjoyed the evening just hanging out with Beth, Todd and their other 4 kids.  Todd made us a yummy fajita dinner.  Noah again managed to find some dirt to play in and required a bath before we left.  He didn’t much appreciate the too-small diaper we used for the trip back to Dad’s.

Yesterday was a long trip back home.  We were all happy to sleep in our own beds again.  The kids did a great job of traveling.  We broke down and bought a DVD system just before we left.  I felt a little guilty about that.  I’ve always been a “look at the countryside or read a book” traveler.  But we’ve seen that countryside (which isn’t very exciting much of the time) way too many times.  Yes, they did watch close to 10 hours worth of movies each way.  But it made the day go so much faster.  I think it was worth it.

By the way, did you see those numbers go up?  We were able to share several things with my sisters.  I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating.  It feels so good to be letting go of more stuff.  Especially when you’re able to give them to someone who can use them.  We have a couple more opportunities in the next two weeks to get rid of more poundage.  But I have a lot of work to do before then.  In between tasks, I’ll try to post some pictures of the weekend.
