Inquiring minds want to know--what was the outcome of the Iditarod? We got to watch (via live streaming) Lance Mackey win with a time of 9 days, 21 hours, 38 minutes and 46 seconds. It was his third win in as many years.
This year's race featured some interesting weather. It wasn't terribly cold (for Alaska in March), but it was windy (with awful windchills), and there was quite a bit of snow. At one point in the race, Jeff King went down the trail 18 miles, only to turn around and go back to the checkpoint to find shelter for his dogs. Eighteen miles!!
Speaking of Jeff, he finished 12th with a time of 10:21:06:06. DeeDee finished right behind him at 10:22:56:10. Laura and Melissa both had to scratch in the interest of their dogs. It was a tough trail this year. Timothy Hunt was the "Red Lantern" (last finisher) this year with a time of 15:14:06:22.
As for us, we didn't enjoy the race as much this year. Not because it wasn't interesting, but because we were all sick during the main days of racing. We did update our map about once a day. Otherwise, we fell far behind on the videos and updates. We're looking forward to next year.
