Yep, I'm back. Again. I'm not even making any promises this time. :-)
Let's see, where did we leave off? Ah, yes. Selling a house and moving. I'd forgotten what a job that can be. We accepted the offer on October 3 with a closing date of November 6--giving us just 5 weeks to find a new place to live. That was a very stressful time. Four different times we thought we'd found a place, only to have it rented out before we got to it.
Finally, with just 3 weeks left, we decided we'd have to move to the Big City. Since Jason works there, it would cut his commute. We would still face the drive back to Town 3 or 4 times a week for church and homeschool activities. We found 4 possibilities, but came home that night completely discouraged about the whole thing.
In one last desperate attempt, I pulled out that day's paper to check the rental listings. That's when I saw it--a 4-bedroom house here in our Small Town. We knew immediately from the phone number which house it was. We had looked at it when the owners were originally trying to sell it, before they had to move south for a new job. We called right away to find that the owner was actually up for a football game, so we set up an appointment for the next morning. All night we were haunted by the 4 other opportunities that had slipped away, so we called early the next morning to tell him we already knew the house, didn't need to see it and were ready to sign the lease. I think he was relieved to have the "business" part of the trip taken care of so he could enjoy the "fun" part.
We started moving the 24th of October and were so thankful for the week and a half we had to finish the job, plus clean the "old" house. But we've come to a very humbling realization--we have Too...Much...Stuff! Way too much. So we've made a resolution. By the time we move again, we want to have gotten rid of (literally) a ton of stuff. Yep, a ton. We're weighing everything that leaves this house (not, mind you, the everyday trash) with the goal of weeding out as much as possible. Moving can be a magical thing. It's even turning my "saver" husband into more of a "tosser." You can follow our progress on the side bar under "One Ton Weight Loss."
So, what are your New Year Resolutions?
