This Friday was the annual Spelling Bee. No amount of coaxing was going to get Ellie up on that stage, so I didn't even pursue it. But Abby's in her element in front of people--whether it's singing, acting or spelling. She loves it.
Abby's round started with about 15 kids and fairly quickly dwindled down to about 5. After a lot of work, it came down to Abby and J. Those two spelled back and forth so many times, they exhausted the prepared contest list for 3rd and 4th graders. The organizers pulled out the 5th and 6th grade book. After a couple of rounds, Abby misspelled "punctuate." She missed the "c"and realized it as soon as she finished the word. J. was able to spell it correctly, then had to spell one more word to win. He got "beam." Talk about luck of the draw. Abby was happy with how well she did. And she's already looking forward to next year.
Only one of my readers will find the rest of this post even remotely interesting, though the rest of you are welcome to read, too.

This is what we saw as we waited at a stop light after church today. The funny thing is, once the light turned green, they did exactly what we speculated would happen. Why do people who feel the need to strut their stuff in such a way buy a 6-cylinder? In case you're wondering, the 'Stang blew the Goat out of the water.

R-I-G-H-T! I'm sure the 6-banger Stang blew the dorrs clean off that Goat....
I have a car full of witnesses. The Goat must have pulled up once they hit the speed limit, which was about the other side of the intersection. But the Stang held the lead the entire time.
